Day 1

Let the fun begin!

Well, we're 36 days out.  (Which also means you should start preparing for Thanksgiving.)

Where will you be in 36 days?  Others have taken similar challenges and seen tremendous results.  Use whatever motivation you need to stick to the challenge.  Like with any workout, it's better to look back and say "I completed it" rather than having a "DNF" (Did Not Finish) by your name on the wall.  Any questions or concerns, we've got a whole community of about a dozen here to help each other out.

Here are some testimonials and pictures from previous Paleo challenges:

Also, Kate has provided an awesome link to a great recipe PDF.  Click here.

Post meals and thoughts to comments.

  6. No lunchmeat, talk to me about this? Is it due to sodium content? I had turkey lunchmeat on my salad today :(

  7. Babs- It looks like we're all learning some new stuff today. Apparently, processed bacon is a no-go! Ack! As for the salt, just use it sparingly. The little details are almost ancillary. Stick to paleo, but we don't want people going crazy because they aren't getting their little bit of honey in sparse increments.

Perhaps I'm being a little to liberal for a "challenge..." My short answer, use it sparingly, and ween yourself off it.

  8. Melissa- Apparently, lunch meat has sugar packed in there. I know... why throw sugar into meat!?

Bacon is ok if you get it sugar-free (which BlueGrass Quality Meats is) and nitrate-free (not sure about that). I'll be getting mine from Findley Market during the challenge. Their peppered bacon is to die for.

Also, Robb Wolf (Nutrition guru) says sweet potatoes ARE paleo. But I suggest eating them after a tough 20 min+ WOD to replace the glycogen storage in your body.

  12. I read the lunch meat, bacon, and sweet potatoes and felt sad, but am feeling better! At least bacon and sweet potatoes are a go!

For dinner/very late lunch my Mom (also doing the challenge Edie T) ate at Chedder's:
8 oz sirloin steak (ate like 5 oz of it)
1 side salad with no dressing
2 orders of steamed broccoli with garlic
    unsweetened tea

Lunch: salad with mixed greens, carrots, orange pepper, avocado and turkey lunchmeat and vinegarette.

snack: almonds (and a few cashews...they were in the mix).
